MA in Civilization Studies

MA in Civilization Studies

Ibn Khaldun established a new field of scientific inquiry six centuries ago to investigate ‘civilization(s)’. The concept ‘civilization’ still remains one of the most common units of analysis in the social sciences.

The Alliance of Civilizations Institute (ACI) at Ibn Haldun (IHU) offers master’s and doctorate degree programs in Civilization Studies.

Civilization still remains a valid unit of analysis for understanding the social, cultural and political differences in the world. Our present era also poses a period of radical civilizational transformations largely due to the unprecedented level of communicative and transportation connectivity between human societies. Humanity at large needs to understand the immense transformations of our time.

The Alliance of Civilizations Institute-ACI (Tur. Medeniyetler İttifakı Enstitüsü-MEDİT) was established to study the world civilizations and their interactions from the point of departure of the idea of ‘open civilization’. ACI is a graduate school of Ibn Haldun University accredited by the Turkish Council of Higher Education-CoHE (Tur. Yüksek Öğretim Kurumu-YÖK).

Department Chair: Dr. Önder KÜÇÜKURAL

The Alliance of Civilizations Institute offers master’s and doctorate degrees in the field of Civilization Studies. The Institute espouses an interdisciplinary and multi-lingual approach for the teaching and research its community conducts. The institute curriculum is trilingual with classes engaging literature in Turkish, English and Arabic. We endorse the utilization of diverse perspectives from various fields of humanities and social sciences in the study of civilizations.

As the Director of ACI, I am confident that our Institute will earn its deserved spot among the world’s pioneering institutions in the field of civilization studies with its close cooperation with international academic and student organisations.

Prof. Dr. Recep Şentürk
