The aim of political science is to reflect on the question of how people can live together collectively. The answers given to this universal question are shaped by the particular historical, social, and political conditions in which societies exist. The determining role of human experience demonstrates that the focus of political science may vary across time and space. Unfortunately, however, political science was for a long time shaped by the modern paradigm, which was based on the presumed universality of the West. On the one hand, the modern paradigm overlooked the uniqueness of different human societies by equating their social realities and experiences with those of the West; on the other hand, it disregarded the cultural and intellectual heritage of non-Western societies.
Today’s world is experiencing a post-modernity era in which the presumed universality of the West has come to an end. This transformation has opened the way for non-Western societies to reflect on their own experiences through their own cultural and intellectual traditions. At a time when such a significant paradigmatic shift is taking place, political science needs to be reshaped and should pursue the production of knowledge that is grounded in the local while engaging with both local and global realities.
The Department of Political Science and International Relations aims to educate competent administrators, politicians, and intellectuals who are locally grounded yet globally oriented, and who are capable of combining their own local cultural heritage with the shared cultural heritage of humanity and examining them from a comparative perspective. In line with the vision of our University, one of the primary missions of the Department of Political Science and International Relations is to educate experts, administrators, diplomats, politicians, and intellectuals equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to the needs of our country as well as institutions and organizations operating worldwide.
As the language of instruction in the Department of Political Science and International Relations is English, the Department also aims to equip its graduates with the linguistic and communicative competence necessary to work, assume professional responsibilities, and communicate effectively not only in Türkiye but also worldwide.

The objective of the Master’s Program in Political Science and International Relations is to contribute to the advancement of research in the field of political science in Türkiye and to educate political scientists and international relations specialists who are capable of identifying problems and developing effective solutions in line with the needs of the country.
