Why a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Education at Ibn Haldun University?

Artificial intelligence technologies are influencing all areas of life, and particularly education, leading to a major transformation that requires questioning and redefining roles and practices. This transformation necessitates developing new theoretical perspectives and applications, conducting research in these areas, and training competent academics who specialize in these topics. Artificial intelligence in education is a field that must be addressed not only from a technological perspective but also through pedagogical, psychological, sociological, and ethical dimensions. In this respect, our university, with its social sciences-based and holistic perspective, has adopted a mission to play a critical role in training qualified scientists in this field. The University’s human-, society-, and values-oriented approach supports the development of scientific studies for the ethical, safe, and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies in education. The expertise of the faculty members in the Faculty of Education—such as educational technology, measurement and evaluation, curriculum development, adult education, educational administration, values education, and educational psychology—provides a strong foundation for effectively implementing this holistic approach.

In this context, the program has been established to train scientists and researchers who will contribute to Türkiye’s digital transformation goals in education, support policymakers with scientific evidence, and produce innovative solutions for practice.

Purpose

The purpose of the Ph.D. Program in Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Education is to train qualified scientists who possess advanced knowledge, skills, and competencies for the effective, ethical, safe, and appropriate use of artificial intelligence technologies in educational processes, who can think from an interdisciplinary perspective, and who can conduct scientific research.

Scope

The program has a holistic structure that draws on various disciplines, including educational sciences, communication sciences, management sciences, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and guidance and psychological counseling.

Within this scope, the program envisions conducting both theoretical and applied studies in areas such as:

  • Effectively and efficiently conducting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods, supported by artificial intelligence technologies
  • Re-examining teaching and learning processes, designing innovative and original approaches, implementing, evaluating, and improving them
  • Researching, testing, and disseminating new approaches, strategies, methods, and techniques in assessment and evaluation
  • Developing models and systems for the management of education systems and offering decision-support mechanisms to policymakers
  • Developing and implementing models for digital transformation in education
  • Identifying social impacts arising from changing roles and processes, and developing and disseminating ethical, humane, and value-based transformation principles

Additionally, the program focuses on building a bridge between academia and the education sector, aiming to develop practical, innovative solutions.

Objectives

Although not limited to the following, the main objectives of the program include:

  • Training competent and qualified scientists who can ensure the correct, effective, efficient, and conscious use of artificial intelligence technologies in education and develop new theories, models, and practices
  • Increasing scientific knowledge production and innovation through interdisciplinary studies, research, and projects
  • Developing projects, applications, and models that contribute to the digital transformation of the education system
  • Strengthening collaboration among universities, educational institutions, the private sector, and public organizations
  • Producing sustainable, practice-oriented solutions whose effectiveness and efficiency have been scientifically examined, for all stakeholders of education (policymakers, teachers, students, parents, administrators, and content developers)
  • Enabling graduates to create a positive and healthy social impact through scientific knowledge and outputs related to the use of artificial intelligence technologies in education, and contributing to the development of digitally competent individuals with strong critical thinking skills and ethical responsibility
  • Contributing to the University’s goal of becoming an innovative and leading research university in the field of “Digital Social Sciences” in the context of artificial intelligence technologies in education
